Module 1 :
27th July – 2nd August Life, death and rebirth: a Buddhist perspective
Based on the traditional Tibetan teachings of the Bardo Thödol
with Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche
During this week of teachings, Rinpoche will describe the process of death and the various stages of the Bardo, and will give practical advice on how to best prepare for our own death as well as how to best accompany the dying.
According to the Buddhist notions of impermanence and change, death is a part of the natural process of birth, old-age, death and rebirth; it is not considered to be the end of life, but merely the demise of the body we inhabit. Our mind stream remains and seeks out – through the craving of attachment – a new body, a new life. What that new life will be is determined by our past actions…
Provided that we have familiarized ourselves with the true nature of our mind through meditative practice, the moment of death is a great opportunity to recognize our inherent clear light and merge with it, hence attaining liberation.
Arrival of participants on Friday, 27th July at 4 pm
3rd August Shitro Puja: 100 peaceful and wrathful deities puja
With His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche, Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche and Dungsey Lhuntrul Rinpoche
Shitro refers to the 42 peaceful and 58 wrathful deities. From an absolute point of view, these lie within our mind stream. By familiarizing ourselves with them through the practice of the Shitro puja, it becomes easier to recognize them at the moment of death, and to seize this opportunity to merge with our Buddha nature.
4th August Shitro Empowerment
With His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche, Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche and Dungsey Lhuntrul Rinpoche
Receiving the Shitro empowerment purifies broken Samayas (practice commitments) and helps one go through the Bardo stages without fear and in full trust of recognizing the 100 peaceful and wrathful deities. It is said that even hearing the name of the 100 deities closes the door to rebirth in lower realms.
Tertön Karma Lingpa discovered the Shitro terma which is widely practiced by the Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
