SUMMARY:The Way of Shamatha: Soothing the Body\, Settling the Mind\, and Illuminating Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Six Day Residential Retreat with Dr. B. Alan Wallace \nDuring this retreat\, we will explore in theory and practice a range of methods for developing meditative quiescence\, or shamatha. We will begin with the practice of mindfulness of the breathing as taught by the Buddha\, which is an especially effective approach to soothing the body and calming the discursive mind. We will then explore an approach to shamatha that is particularly pertinent for Dzogchen practice\, called “settling the mind in its natural state\,” as taught by the nineteenth-century Dzogchen master Lerab Lingpa in his commentary to the Heart Essence of Vimalamitra. Finally\, we will engage in the practice of “shamatha without signs” as taught by Padmasambhava in his classic terma Natural Liberation. Although this subtle practice is taught explicitly as a means of achieving shamatha\, Padmasambhava comments that it may even result in a realization of rigpa\, or pristine awareness. The achievement of shamatha is widely regarded in the Buddhist tradition as an indispensable foundation for the cultivation of contemplative insight (vipashyana)\, and this retreat is designed to provide students with a sufficient theoretical understanding and a basis in experience to enable them to proceed effectively toward this extraordinary state of mental and physical balance. \nDynamic lecturer\, progressive scholar\, and one of the most prolific writers and translators of Tibetan Buddhism in the West\, B. Alan Wallace\, Ph.D.\, continually seeks innovative ways to integrate Buddhist contemplative practices with Western science to advance the study of the mind. \nDr. Wallace\, a scholar and practitioner of Buddhism since 1970\, has taught Buddhist theory and meditation worldwide since 1976. Having devoted fourteen years to training as a Tibetan Buddhist monk\, ordained by H. H. the Dalai Lama\, he went on to earn an undergraduate degree in physics and the philosophy of science at Amherst College and a doctorate in religious studies at Stanford. \nWith his unique background\, Alan brings deep experience and applied skills to the challenge of integrating traditional Indo-Tibetan Buddhism with the modern world.

SUMMARY:Winter Retreat 2017
DESCRIPTION:« Contemplation on the four thoughts that turn the mind from Samsara » With Dungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche \nPreliminary practices are the first step to the commencement of Dharma practice. The Tibetan term Ngöndro literally means “something that is placed before\, that precedes”. Two kinds of preliminary practices can be found: the first is called common or ordinary and the second special or extraordinary.\nOrdinary preliminaries consist of a series of deep reflections on “the four thoughts that help turn the mind.” They divert it from imprisonment in samsara and turn it toward the practice of Dharma.\nThis winter retreat in complete silence\, will be the opportunity to plunge into the very foundations of Buddhist practice with the guidance of a highly qualified Master.\nNormal price: 305 CHF / 280 € Reduced price**: 215 CHF / 195 € \nWith Dungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche\, highly accomplished master of rituals in the Vajrayana Buddhism tradition\, he was recognized as the reincarnation of Jigme Tempay Gyeltsen\, the third Tamdrin Lhunpo Chogtrul.

SUMMARY:Vipassana meditation retreat in full silence
DESCRIPTION:With Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche \nApproaching emptiness and the nature of reality \nThe experience of emptiness is one of the most puzzling aspects of Buddha’s teachings; while we can intuitively relate to the truth of impermanence to some extent\, it is difficult for most of us to understand the notion of emptiness which is often likened to a big vacuum or some sort of state of deprivation; yet\, according to Buddha’s teachings\, the experience of emptiness plays a central role in liberating beings from pain and suffering.\nDuring this end-of-year retreat\, Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoché will guide participants into exploring the experience of emptiness as the key insight into transforming our lives. Building on basic teachings and guided practice\, he will train participants into developing “ways of looking” that help free the mind from conceptual fabrication. \nRETREAT IN FULL SILENCE. \nPrerequisite: meditation experience

SUMMARY:Promoting mental resilience and well-being
DESCRIPTION:WITH DIEGO HANGARTNER \nA scientific and experimental approach \nOne of the most persistent\, frustrating issues facing us today is that we lack mental wellbeing\, often feeling restless\, anxious\, and inattentive. \nOver the last 10 years a growing body of evidence from the highest level of scientific research has emerged\, and has confirmed the mental and physical benefits of mind training\, also known as meditation. \nThe main purpose of this programme called the “Wheel of Mental Balance” is to develop mental balance and resilience in a modern context. It combines techniques and processes found in classical Buddhist texts\, extracting the values of practical application without compromising the source materials. Based on traditional meditation practices\, the programme incorporates and builds on insights stemming from current neuroscientific and clinical research. \nBased on a profound conceptual framework\, the program represents a collection of proven\, practical methods whose purpose is to overcome hindrances in the midst of our daily lives\, and to enable and find mental balance. \nAddressed to individuals and professionals of all walks of life wishing to discover or to deepen their knowledge and experience of meditation and learn more about its role in promoting mental balance and resilience in daily life. \nIn order to fully benefit from the experience\, we strongly recommend participants to stay on the premises overnight. \nDiego Hangartner\, Pharm.D.\, [b. 1962] completed his studies in pharmacology at the ETHZurich. He lived for 11 years in Dharamsala\, India\, learned Tibetan\, and studied for 7 years at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics. He has completed many retreats\, worked as an interpreter\, translating Tibetan into many languages\, and published a few books. \nOn returning to Europe in 2003\, he taught widely\, and organized several large events with His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, and participated in research aimed at exploring the benefits of meditation as a long-term practitioner. \nDiego is associated and worked with the Mind and Life Institute (Dialogues between science and Buddhism) since the 1990’s: he was Mind and Life’s COO from 2009 – 2012 in the USA\, co-founded Mind and Life Europe\, and was its director until 2014. He was actively involved in research projects. \nDiego founded the “Institute of Secular Ethics and Mental Balance” (ISEMB)\, an interdisciplinary initiative to provide tools and programs that foster mental balance\, and created “The Wheel of Mental Balance”.

SUMMARY:Summer Retreat 2016 Week Three: "Fire-Monkey 2016" Year of Guru Rinpoche – Celebration of His Birth\, Life and Enlightenment
DESCRIPTION:With His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche\, Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche and Dungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche\nGuru Rinpoche Empowerment and Celebration\nThe Tsog Bum is achieved by invoking the blessings of Guru Rinpoche and the assistance of his entourage of deities. It helps to transform disturbed energies into positive outcomes. This practice is specifically undertaken to heal and bring harmony\, peace\, wisdom and compassion to all beings. Engaging in the practice of Tsog offering helps to release mental projections and ignorance as well as ego clinging which often manifests as anger\, attachment\, pride and envy\, thus allowing one to fully enter into non-dual wisdom. The ultimate result is peace\, positive circumstances and bliss\, leading us further towards enlightenment\, as we dedicate the merit to all beings. \nGuru Rinpoche Day Celebration\nAugust 13th marks the 10th day of the Monkey month of the Monkey year\, an extremely auspicious occasion that only happens once every twelve years! It is believed that the blessings of Guru Rinpoche are particularly powerful and invoking him brings instant blessings to those present. The Ripa International Center will celebrate this occasion with the traditional Tibetan Cham ritual. Mask Dances and the Gesar Lingdro Dances will be performed in the exceptional presence of the three Ripa Masters. \nFire Monkey 2016\n2016 is the Year of the Fire-Monkey – Guru Rinpoche’s Year – a time in which Guru Rinpoche’s energies are particularly strong and prevalent. It is also the year of Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche\, the spiritual director of the Ripa Center\, who is particularly blessed by Guru Rinpoche. Supporting him at this time is a particularly poignant and a very concrete way to help our teacher’s activity flourish. \nSchedule:\n6 August: Arrival \n7 August: Guru Rinpoche Empowerment bestowed by His Eminence Terton Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche \n8 – 12 August: Tsog Bum \n13 August: Guru Rinpoche Day celebration \nFurther details to come… \n  \nPlease note that the teachings will be given in English. \nProgram details can be found on the link below. \nhttp://ripa-international.com/program/2016-year-of-the-fire-monkey-guru-rinpoches-year-celebration-of-padmasambhavas-birth-life-and-enlightenment/

SUMMARY:Nyung Ne Retreat – Two Cycles
DESCRIPTION:With Dungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche \nPurifying fasting ritual at Ripa International Center from 22nd to 25th of May 2015 or from 22nd to 27th of May 2015 \nWe are pleased to announce that Dungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyumrey Rinpoche will lead our next annual purifying fasting ritual of Nyung Ne practice. Rinpoche is ordained by Kyabje Drupwang Penor Rinpoche and revealed as the reincarnation of the 3rdTamdrin Lhunpo Chogtrul Rinpoche. This practice of Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) that can be followed by beginners and more advanced students is made out of a one day and an half fasting period complete with instructions\, prayer and moment of silence. It will also be possible to take part to the second cycle of the fasting lasting for another one and and half day. \nThe spiritual leader of our center\, Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche\, is recommending this practice to us\, which will take place during the month of Saga Dawa\, as an annual ritual of purification. The Nyung Ne is a traditional Tibetan practice of purifying fasting based on the prayers of Avalokiteshvara\, the Buddha of compassion. Every year at this time\, it is practiced by communities of monasteries in India and Nepal that are under the guidance of Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche and of Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche. \nWe kindly ask you to register as soon as possible\, in order to have the best organization possible\, and no later than the 8th of May 2015. We thank you in advance for your understanding and your help.

SUMMARY:YOGOM: weekend course with François Bertolero
DESCRIPTION:YOGOM without intermediaries connects the body and mind. In this yoga practice the body postures are both the source and the basis of meditation. Physical exercises are gradually adapted to each individual’s abilities. The postures enable one to find a stable and comfortable seat. Rhythmic breathing exercises enhance base line lung capacity without dispersion and also provide energy. Through this continuity of breath and posture the body and mind arise and create the space for calm and clear presence. \nLet YOGOM practice flourish within\, so that one can find the time to know and release negative tendencies\, to meet one’s nature\, to enhance the positive aspects that enable us to act in a better way\, and thus contribute to our well being\, our health. A practice that is open to everyone. \nFrançois Bertolero is student of Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche and Yoga teacher graduate FFYYOG_FB_web \nFor a description of YOGOM\, please click here . \nPractical information: info@ripa-international.com \nFor meals and lodging on site\, contact the Landguet Ried: office@landguet.ch\nwww.landguet.ch

SUMMARY:Ripa International Winter Retreat 2014-2015
DESCRIPTION:The Ngöndro Practice\, or Preliminary Practice\, combines the essence of the Three Vehicles – Theravada\, Mahayana and Vajrayana. As it is called a “preliminary” practice we might have the wrong impression that it is only an introductory practice\, a necessary stage to reach a higher level of practice which will be subsequent to this first preliminary step. However\, according to the teachings of Patrul Rinpoche in “The Words of my Perfect Teacher\,” it is perfectly possible to achieve enlightenment by practicing only the Ngöndro. This method of practice comprises the common and uncommon preliminaries\, which cover completely the full length of the Dharma path from the initial intent to leave the suffering of cyclic existence\, or “samsara\,” to the final goal of the actual achievement of recognition of the true nature of mind and phenomena. The first common preliminary practice is also called “the four thoughts which turn the mind towards Dharma\,” making us reflect upon the nature of cyclic existence\, and in so doing\, to thereby become disillusioned with it. The second preliminary consists of Refuge – which is entrance to the Buddhist path\, and Bodhichitta – the mind of enlightened intent for the benefit of self and others\, which is the root of Mahayana practice\, followed by the practice of Dorje Sempa or Vajrasattva – which purifies negative thoughts and actions or karmas\, as well as obstructions\, primarily ignorance\, and following that\, in order to clear adverse conditions\, comes the Mandala Offering\, which gathers the accumulation of merit  in order to create favourable conditions for practice\, and then finally the practice of Guru Yoga – which enables one to receive the blessings of the teacher\, thus helping us to swiftly recognize Buddha nature. \nDuring this Winter Retreat we will have the good fortune to receive from Dungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche these wonderful teachings on this precious Dharma practice\, in accordance with the profound instructions of His Eminence the Terchen Namkha Drime Rabjam Rinpoche\, holder of the Ripa lineage. \nThe Ripa international winter retreat will be held form 27.12.2014 – 03.01.2015. As usual\, it will be a combination of teachings and practice. The teachings will be given to all participants. The practice portion will take place with two groups. The main group will focus on Ngöndro accumulation. Those students who have finished their Ngöndro will focus on Tsa Lung practice. Please read the exact conditions below. \nConditions of participation \nThe retreat is open to all students who have taken refuge with the Ripa teachers and lineage. Should you not have yet formally taken refuge but would like to do so\, in order to be able to legitimately enter the Ripa Ngöndro practice\, and to participate in the retreat\, please send a request to info@ripa-international.com up until the 7th of December. \nParticipation in the practice of Tsa Lung is limited to those students who have completed the full Ngöndro (all four sections of accumulations of 111\,111 each of: prostrations\, Vajrasattva\, Mandala Offering and Guru Yoga)\, and who have also already received the Tsa Lung instructions directly from H.E. Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche. (Please confirm this on the registration form ). \nAbout the Teacher\n \nDungsey Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche \nLhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche was born\, in keeping with Guru Rinpoche’s prophecy\, in 1976 as the son of His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche and Khandro Chime Drolkar. He was recognized as the reincarnation of Jigme Tempay Gyeltsen\, the 3rd… Learn More \nNo checks are accepted.
