Compassionate Projects

Under The Care Of H. E. Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche

His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche’s scope of assistance to all beings is vast and his help is given on various levels, depending on the needs of the people he meets. He offers the highest level of Buddhist teachings to assist beings, in both the East and the West, to become freed from all types of suffering. And yet his offering of compassionate assistance often also takes the form of physical help.

For instance he aids the elderly people in Orissa, India who need to be cared for and he provides for them. He also provides educational services to children. And in general he is not only the head of monasteries in India, Nepal and Tibet, but he also is the leader of the Tibetan refugee population in India of several thousand persons.

Namkha Drimed Rinpoche’s various compassionate projects need assistance. If you would like to contribute to the support of his various projects, please send your request via mail or e-mail to Ripa Ladrang Foundation.

United States

It is Rinpoche’s vision that sometime in the near future he would like to develop a dharma center (or centers) in the United States, including the purchase of land and the building or leasing of facilities, to serve as his base in the U.S. for teaching in the West.

India

In Orissa, India, Namkha Drimed Rinpoche’s monastery is Rigon Thupten Mindrolling. There he teaches approximately 50 to 60 monks. Orissa is also the area where the Tibetan refugees reside. When Rinpoche was forced to leave Tibet in 1959, he led thousands of Tibetans to safe refuge here. He has a number of concerns about the welfare of these people. He wants his monks to have better facilities. He has especial concerns about the elderly Tibetans, many of whom are extremely poor, living in conditions that would be difficult for people in the West to visualize. They need not only financial support but medical care as well. And he is very concerned about the education of the children here, so he is developing facilities where children can be educated. His monastery in Orissa is not well constructed and must be rebuilt. The support facilities to the monastery also must be provided. In short, he needs a great deal of assistance. If resources can be obtained, this is what Rinpoche would like to accomplish:

  • Build the new monastery in Orissa, India (the ground was consecrated by H.H. the Dalai Lama in December 1998)
  • Complete construction of the monastery office, kitchen & guest facility
  • Build a residential facility for the elderly
  • Build a retreat center
  • Build a school for the monks
  • Build an institute for the benefit of all children
  • Build a hospital
  • Provide transportation (1 Truck and 1 Jeep)

Monk Sponsorship

His Eminence also has a monk sponsorship program to sponsor individual monks. In sponsoring a monk, one provides for a specific individual’s personal and educational financial needs. The sponsorship program is financed one year at a time for each sponsor. And it is their hope that sponsors will be willing to accept such a joyous assistance program for the long term to assure support stability for the monks. (see section on monk sponsorship).

Elderly Support and Sponsorship

Namkha Drimed Rinpoche also is developing a sponsorship program for specific elderly persons in the Tibetan refugee community. Many of the elderly are very poverty-stricken, living in poor conditions, also needing medical care.

Tibet

His Eminence’s monastery in Tibet is Rigon Tashi Cholin which has over 100 monks. This monastery was crushed to the ground, utterly destroyed, after the Chinese invasion in the 1950’s. It was rebuilt but it is not structurally sound and needs to be rebuilt again. Support facilities also are needed here. Substantially the same needs apply at the Tibetan monastery as for India and Nepal. They need a great deal of help in this location on every level.

Nepal

In Nepal, it is Rinpoche’s hope to be able to accomplish the following, when resources can be obtained (see section on Nepal New Treasures Sponsorship Fund). Currently this is Rinpoche's Number One Priority - to complete development of the Nepal project as quickly as possible, to fulfill the prophecies of Padmasambhava related to the new terma or treasures for the coming age.

  • Build a new monastery (125 or more monks)
  • Build a hostel/residence for monks (60 or more rooms)
  • Build a monastery office and kitchen
  • Build a guest facility
  • Build a residential facility for the elderly (30 persons)
  • Build a retreat center (20 rooms/40 people)
  • Build a school for monks
  • Build an institute and hospital
  • Provide transportation (1 Truck, 1 Jeep, 1 Auto)

These are the various ways in which Namkha Drimed Rinpoche compassionately assists sentient beings on the relative level. In addition to the direct teachings and assistance that he gives to beings, on another level he works ceaselessly toward uplifting the general condition of all humanity. His spiritual practices, prayers, blessings, offerings, powerful positive energies, that he directs towards the elimination of all negativity, are performed on behalf of all beings so that peace, joy, love and equanimity might prevail amongst all the peoples and the nations of the earth. The following are some of the practices he does to accomplish these beneficial conditions:

Every year, for many years, he has done the Gesar Drubchen (a group ritual of lamas and monks). Padmasambhava (referred to in Tibetan Buddhism as ‘Guru Rinpoche’) had prophesied that Namkha Drimed was to do this Gesar Drubchen annually in order to remove obstacles for humanity as well as to eliminate wars and to aid world peace. Padmasambhava, often referred to as the second Buddha, taught in Tibet during the 8th Century A.D. In that lifetime, Namkha Drimed was one of his close students and in that role he became the embodiment of many of Guru Rinpoche’s sacred hidden teachings (these treasures are known as ‘terma’). Namkha Drimed, who is the sky emanation of Gesar (who was the great enlightened Warrior King of Tibet), holds this Gesar Drubchen as a mind treasure.

He also does the Hiyagriva Drubchen (group ritual of lamas and monks) for all sentient beings in order to pacify their obstacles and to prolong their lives so that they may accumulate merit and attain happiness. This Drubchen lasts for 7 days, purifying the negative aspects of Body, Speech and Mind of sentient beings.

Namkha Drimed Rinpoche also does 100,000 Guru Rinpoche Feast Offerings once per month for world peace; also the Yeshe Tsogyal extensive practice once per month.

He does the Guru Rinpoche Mind Sadhana once per year for pacifying all sentient beings’ karmic obstacles and to increase their karmic merit, as well as to purify sentient beings’ Body, Speech and Mind. At the end of this practice, an elaborate Masked Dance is performed depicting the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche.

His Eminence also does the Mane Dumdrup (accumulation of 100 Million Om Mane Padma Hum mantra) once per year for the purpose of world peace, world prosperity, purification of body, speech, and mind, and to gain ultimate happiness for all sentient beings. Then he does the Guru Rinpoche Siddhi Dumdrup which continues for one month. This is for purifying body, speech and mind, and also for world peace.

There are many other practices he does on behalf of sentient beings, on an ongoing basis, so that all beings might ultimately attain enlightenment. These practices benefit beings on a relative and an ultimate level. His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche’s every thought, action, intent is to alleviate the suffering of sentient beings. His Body, Speech and Mind are totally dedicated to this purpose.
