Medicine Buddha Practice
(The Buddha of Healing and Medicine)

Embodiment of the Healing Power of a Compassionate Heart and an Awakened Mind

The following is some basic information to assist students in absorbing and understanding the Medicine Buddha practice.

In the practice, reference will be made to the Medicine Buddha holding "myrobalan" in his hand. Myrobalan is the only herb in Tibetan Medicine which can aid in healing all three types of diseases (wind, bile, phlegm).

Even the name of Medicine Buddha is believed to have power to free one from the pattern of negative thoughts and emotions. Healing can occur just by speaking, hearing or concentrating on his name.

In the particular Medicine Buddha practice which will be given in New York, there are a total of 8 dieties in the visualization.

Medicine Buddha protects beings from physical and mental sickness and other dangers and obstacles and helps them to eliminate the three poisons - Desired, Hatred and Ignorance - which are the source of all sickness and danger. He is a Buddha Doctor.

If we rely upon Medicine Buddha with pure faith we shall definitely receive the blessings that are promised.
